Big Walk on Steam Deck
Valve says Verified. People who actually played it on a Deck say change the settings first. Both are true, and the gap is worth understanding.
Valve's rating
Verified
All four checks pass. Valve / Steam (primary source, opens in a new tab) checked 6 Aug 2026
What testing found
Tune it first
Under 30 FPS on defaults in shadowed forest. Steam Deck HQ (secondary source, opens in a new tab) checked 6 Aug 2026
What Verified actually certifies
Steam's own hardware-compatibility record for Big Walk sits in Valve's top tier, and each of the four things Valve checks comes back clean: the default controller configuration works, the on-screen button glyphs match the Deck's own buttons, the interface text is legible at Deck resolution, and the default configuration is rated performant. Valve / Steam (primary source, opens in a new tab) checked 6 Aug 2026
That last one is where expectations and experience part company. Verified is a pass/fail judgement made once; it is not a promise of a particular framerate, and it does not tell you what the game does in its heaviest scene.
The measured numbers
From Steam Deck HQ's hands-on testing. We have not run these ourselves. Steam Deck HQ (secondary source, opens in a new tab) checked 6 Aug 2026
High quality, 100% render scale (the default)
Drops below 30 FPS in forest areas with heavy shadows
High quality, 70% render scale
A more solid 30 FPS
Medium quality, 80% render scale
A pretty stable 40 FPS throughout — their recommended setup
Low quality, 100% render scale
60 FPS for most play, with drops around towers and gondolas
What to actually set
Medium quality with the render scale at 80%. That was Steam Deck HQ's recommendation and it is the one that trades the least for the most: a stable 40 FPS beats a 60 that collapses every time you walk into a stand of trees. Steam Deck HQ (secondary source, opens in a new tab)
Their verdict on the badge is worth quoting directly, because it is the whole story of this page:
“The game is playable on the Deck, but it needs some modifications to the default graphical configuration to run well.” Steam Deck HQ (secondary source, opens in a new tab)
Battery
Roughly 2.5 hours of play across every configuration tested, drawing 18–23 W at 75–80 °C. Steam Deck HQ (secondary source, opens in a new tab) checked 6 Aug 2026
Worth planning around, because Big Walk is not a game you dip into for fifteen minutes. It expects a group to sit down together for an evening, and the save lives with whoever is hosting, so if that is you, on a Deck, a charger is part of the setup.
One thing the Deck is genuinely good at here
Big Walk is a talking game, and the developers ask you to stay on in-game voice rather than an outside call. A Deck with a headset handles that fine, and being untethered from a desk suits a game whose whole pitch is wandering around with friends.
What the Deck does not change: you still need at least one other person, and the Steam version joins the same crossplay sessions as everyone else. Big Walk (House House) (primary source, opens in a new tab)
