Big Walk Field Guide

Unofficial · sources shown

An unofficial companion to Big Walk, with every source shown.

Before you buy

Free on PS Plus, but not for long

Big Walk landed on PlayStation Plus the same day it launched, which the programme almost never does with a new release.

Claim window closes

Ends 1 September 2026

PlayStation.Blog says the window runs to Monday 31 August; the store listing shows the offer ending 1 September at 16:00 UTC. We count to the later of the two. Claim it once and it stays while your membership does.

What is on offer

Big Walk is one of three PlayStation Plus Monthly Games for August 2026, alongside Dying Light 2 Stay Human: Reloaded Edition and Signalis. PlayStation.Blog announced the lineup on 28 July and states they are “available to PlayStation Plus members from Tuesday August 4 until Monday August 31.” PlayStation.Blog (primary source, opens in a new tab)

Monthly Games go to every PS Plus tier, so Essential, the cheapest one, is enough. You do not need Extra or Premium. PlayStation.Blog (primary source, opens in a new tab) Sony Interactive Entertainment (primary source, opens in a new tab)

That it arrived on day one is genuinely unusual. Monthly Games are normally older catalogue titles rather than the week's new release, and Big Walk came to the programme on its launch day. PlayStation.Blog (primary source, opens in a new tab)

How to claim it

  1. Make sure your PS Plus membership is active. Any tier will do.
  2. Open the Big Walk PlayStation Store page on your PS5 or in a browser signed in to your account.
  3. Choose the PS Plus option rather than the purchase option, and confirm.
  4. It is now in your library. You do not have to download it before the deadline. Claiming is what matters.

Three things worth knowing first

You still need PS Plus to actually play it

Big Walk is online-only with no single-player mode, and the store listing notes PS Plus is required for online play. A lapsed subscription means you own it and cannot start it. You still need friends

Free does not solve the harder problem. There is no matchmaking, so claiming it without at least one other person to play with leaves you with a game you cannot open. Big Walk (House House) (primary source, opens in a new tab)

Crossplay means only some of you need a PS5

Your PS5 friends can claim it free while everyone else buys it on Steam, and you all play together. Big Walk (House House) (primary source, opens in a new tab)

On a claim of regional exclusivity

Some launch-week coverage described this PS Plus offer as limited to the UK, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. We could not reconcile that with the sources that matter: PlayStation.Blog presents it as an ordinary Monthly Games drop, and the US PlayStation Store listing shows Big Walk as included with PlayStation Plus. We have gone with the platform holder. PlayStation.Blog (primary source, opens in a new tab) Sony Interactive Entertainment (primary source, opens in a new tab)

If you are not on PlayStation

There is no equivalent giveaway on the other platforms. On Steam the game is $14.99 during the launch discount, down from $19.99. More on pricing and where to buy. Valve / Steam (primary source, opens in a new tab)

Common questions

Is Big Walk free on PS Plus?

Yes. Big Walk is one of the August 2026 PlayStation Plus Monthly Games, claimable from 4 August to 31 August 2026. Monthly Games go to all PS Plus tiers, including the entry-level Essential.

Until when can I claim Big Walk on PS Plus?

PlayStation.Blog states the August Monthly Games are available from Tuesday 4 August until Monday 31 August 2026. The PlayStation Store listing shows the offer ending 1 September 2026 at 16:00 UTC.

Do I keep Big Walk after my PS Plus subscription ends?

Monthly Games stay in your library as long as your PS Plus membership stays active. This is standard for the Monthly Games programme rather than something specific to Big Walk — if your subscription lapses, access lapses with it until you resubscribe.

Do I need PS Plus to play Big Walk online?

Yes. The PlayStation Store listing notes that PS Plus is required for online play, and Big Walk has no offline mode at all, so a PS5 player needs an active subscription regardless of how they got the game.
